I thought I would start, not as I had intended with a tutorial or a review, but with some of the first photographs that I took with a DSLR. The gallery below is a compilation of my favorite 8, non long-exposure photos from that first set. None have been modified beyond cropping and, in the case of the Cube, conversion to gray-scale.
- London Pride
- Hang On
- Heron
- Flower
- Cube
- Daisy
- CCTV
- Road Kill
There are two reasons why I have posted them here, firstly, and quite simply, I like them. The flower one especially, I thought I’d share them in the hope that I might get some feedback or other comments. Secondly I don’t think that I have moved on, in terms of capability since I took them…
Now, I have taken many thousands of photographs since and in some areas I can get fairly nice results, indeed I have improved, this is true especially when it comes to portraits and generally in low light. I haven’t however improved when it comes to photographing normal everyday scenes quickly and consistently. If I have time to compose a shot things turn out well, if I do not, then it’s quite hit and miss.
The way I intended to remedy this was to start carrying my camera all the time, or at least whenever it is practical, so far I have managed to avoid it, mainly because carrying a camera bag all the time isn’t as easy nor convenient as it seemed (in fact I feel sorry for those women you see with the large and obviously very full handbags…). It is however my intention to start this on monday next week, and to help me get better at identifying the good shots (and to help me get used to getting rid of the chaff) I’m going to pick one a day to post here.
